Endicott women’s volleyball defeated Gordon 3-1 with scores of 25-19, 29-27, 22-25, and 25-20 Wednesday night in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) conference play.
This was the first matchup between Endicott and Gordon since last year’s CCC Championship game, which Endicott won 3-0. The match was back and forth the whole game, with 15 lead changes and the game being tied 31 times.
The first set was telling of how competitive a match this would be. Neither team could gain control, and the teams kept going back and forth. The set was tied 18-18 when the Gulls went on a six-point run to make it 24-18. The Gulls closed it out and won the set 25-19.
The second set did not come any easier for Endicott. The Gulls started hot, flying out to a 15-9 lead. The Fighting Scots did not roll over easily, as they stormed back and made it 20-20 behind some strong serving. The set went past 25 after both teams were trading points and kills. Finally, the Gulls serving proved too much, and they took the set 29-27.
Endicott dropped the third set 22-25. Neither team was able to gain definitive control over the course of it, with the score remaining only a couple points difference either way. The score was 18-18 late in the set, and Gordon pulled away just a little bit and closed it out.
The Gulls took care of business in the fourth set, jumping out to a 15-11 lead and controlling the set from there. The set finished 25-20, capping off Endicott’s 3-1 victory on the night.
Endicott’s strong attack was facilitated by setter Savannah Campbell with 39 assists. Freshman Hadley Helenbrook had a match-high 17 kills and contributed 8 digs in the back row.
This win keeps Endicott undefeated in conference play and sitting alone atop the CCC standings.
