BEVERLY – The Gulls dominated Wheaton and won 2-0 Tuesday night, recording their seventh shutout win of the season while holding the Lyons to zero shots on goal.
Endicott wasted no time to start the game, jumping to an early 1-0 lead just five minutes in. The Gulls won possession, and senior midfielder Kelly Talerico played a long through ball to junior forward Grace Jewett. Jewett outran the Lyon defender and finished a breakaway goal.
The Gulls dominated the first half. While Wheaton possessed the ball for long periods at a time, it didn’t produce results, as they were held to zero shots in the first half. Endicott made the most out of their time with the ball, recording seven shots (two on target) and the lone goal to make it 1-0 entering the break.
The second half started nearly identical to the first. Once again, five minutes into the half, Jewett got on the end of another through ball and was one-on-one with the keeper. The Wheaton goalie was able to make a save on the breakaway and keep the score 1-0.
At the 60th minute mark, the ball was cleared by Wheaton. From over 35 yards out, senior defender Gillian Magnier hit a one-time shot that sailed perfectly into the top corner of the net. Her first goal of the season was a beauty that extended the Gulls’ lead.
Endicott controlled play for the rest of the second half. Wheaton’s attack never threatened the Gulls, as they continued to hold them to only three shots and zero shots on goal for the entire game. The horn blew, ending the game 2-0, the seventh shutout win of the season for Endicott.
Wheaton’s struggles on the road continue, falling to an 0-3-1 record for away games. Endicott continues to defend the Nest, improving to a perfect 5-0 at home and 7-2 overall. The Gulls look to continue this home streak in a match against Roger-Williams on Saturday.
