BEVERLY, Mass. - In a huge CNE matchup, Endicott women’s basketball took down Hartford 62-54. Emma Shinney hit a milestone, scoring her 1,000th point of her career.
It was a relatively slow offensive day for the Gulls, especially in the first half. Endicott trailed 16-13 to end the first quarter and struggled to get much more going in the second. At the half, they were behind Hartford 27-26 in the low scoring affair.
In the third quarter, the Gulls took control. Tenley Wallin and Tricia Wladkowski scored some timely baskets in the quarter, scoring 7 and 6 points respectively. Endicott won the third quarter 22-8 and led 48-35 entering the final frame.
Endicott extended the lead to as many as 15 points, but the Hawks stormed back, making it a one possession game with under 2 minutes to play. The Gulls held strong defensively and made 6 free throws as a team to take the matchup 62-54.
Shinney led the way in all major offensive categories for the Gulls, with 19 points, 9 rebounds, 7 assists, 3 steals, and 1 block. She also played all 40 minutes in the contest.
Wladkowski and Wallin also added double figures, scoring 16 and 12 points respectively. Wladkowski added 7 rebounds, 2 steals, and 2 blocks in a strong defensive effort.
The win moved Endicott to 11-3 in CNE play and dropped Hartford to 10-5. The Gulls sit at 3rd place in the conference, behind only Johnson & Wales and even at 11-3 with Western New England.
Endicott looks to close out strong in their final two games of the regular season and keep their strong CNE seeding. They travel to Suffolk on Tuesday, February 17, and they host Roger Williams on Saturday, February 21 in their regular season finale.
