BEVERLY - A strong second half propelled No. 4 Endicott Men’s Rugby to defeat Bryant 38-0 Friday night.
Despite a slow start and rainy conditions, the Gulls cruised to a big win over Bryant to improve to 3-0 on the year.
Endicott came out firing, scoring a try early to put them ahead 7-0. They were promptly shut down for most of the half, with Bryant dominating all of the possession. The Bulldogs had nothing to show for it, missing a kick and getting blanked for the half.
The scoreline staying 7-0 entering the half was all but inevitable until Jonathon Taylor scored a try as the half ended. The Gulls’ lead was extended to 14-0 going into the half.
The late try to end the half proved to provide a huge spark to the Endicott offense. The Gulls blew the game open in the second half, scoring 24 points and continuing to shut out Bryant.
“We did a really good job of winning those scrums in the second half,” freshman Eric Lewis said in an interview. “We had a lot of turnovers in the first half, and I feel like we did a really good job changing that up in the second half.”
The difference between the first and second halves was evident. Endicott was much more in control of the ball, and they dominated the Bulldogs both offensively and defensively.
The Gulls were paced by three tries by Jordan Chappell and two from Jonathon Taylor. Conno Fountain also chipped in with one try.
Endicott looks to continue their undefeated season against Roger Williams this Saturday, October 7. Bryant falls to 0-2 after the loss.
