Men’s Volleyball Sweeps in CNE Match

BEVERLY, Mass. - No. 20 Endicott men’s volleyball swept SUNY Poly 3-0 in their second match of the Conference of New England play.
The Gulls jumped out to a flying start in the first set, dominating in every facet of the game and leading the visiting Wildcats 16-5. SUNY Poly did not roll over, cutting the lead to as low as 20-14. It was too little too late, and the Gulls closed out the set 25-16.
The second set proved to be more competitive, with Endicott leading by around 3 to 5 points for most of the set. With the Gulls leading 20-18 late in the set, kills by Ethan Norris and Jake Laborde propelled Endicott to a 25-19 set victory.
The third set was the closest of them all, being back and forth the entire set. Both teams led multiple times throughout, and the Gulls found themselves trailing 24-23. They overcame deficits of 25-24, 27-26, 28-27, 29-28, 30-29, and 31-30. Jake Laborde had three straight kills to end the set, and Endicott completed the sweep 33-31.
Laborde led the team offensively with 15 kills. Aidan Iacovelli had 14 kills of his own with a 0.619 hitting percentage.
Matty Tiernan facilitated the offense with 24 assists. Norris added 17 assists, along with 6 kills and a team-high 3 service aces. Dan Battista led the way defensively with 15 digs.
The Gulls have now won 8 matches in a row, and they look to stay hot as they visit Sage on Saturday, February 28 at 4 PM.
