BEVERLY, Mass. - Endicott men’s soccer defeated the Husson Eagles 3-0 on Friday night in their season opener.
The Gulls jumped out to a quick start, taking the lead just 10 minutes into the contest. The goal came off of a penalty kick from sophomore Liam Stapleton, who earned the penalty himself and buried it.
Despite dominating play the rest of the half, Endicott failed to find the back of the net, and they entered the intermission with a one goal lead.
Endicott doubled their lead in the 54th minute off the foot of St. Thomas transfer Tyler Walser. His volley was assisted by Stapleton and captain Conor Rooney.
The dagger came in the 70th minute, with Travis Perrault collecting a ball inside the box and smashing it home, giving Endicott a dominant 3-0 victory in their first contest in Hempstead Stadium.
A strong Endicott defense was on full display in the matchup. Husson only managed one shot on goal in the entire game, which was calmly saved by goalkeeper Brady O’Toole.
28 different Gulls got minutes for Joe Calabrese’s side, and this squad depth proved to be vital in dominating this game. The Gulls were able to carry play in this match, outshooting Husson 15-6.
Endicott looks to carry this momentum into their contest against Thomas College, another NAC opponent, Sunday at noon. Husson looks to bounce back just down the road against Gordon on Sunday.
