BEVERLY, Mass. - Endicott men’s lacrosse won their first home game of the season at Hempstead Stadium 17-9 over visiting Springfield College.
It wasn’t as easy of a game as the final score would suggest. The Gulls jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first quarter behind two goals from Nick Graap and one from Tommy Tyksinski.
Springfield fought right back, scoring two goals in the next three minutes. Joseph Tumulo answered back for Endicott, but Springfield scored three goals in the final 3 minutes of the quarter, giving them a 5-4 lead over the hosts.
The Pride scored quickly in the second quarter, extending their lead to 6-4. Both teams traded a goal a piece in the middle of the quarter. This time, it was the Gulls who closed out strong, scoring three unanswered goals to end the half and take an 8-7 lead into halftime.
The Gulls dominated the second half. It was a slow start to the third quarter, but in the last seven minutes of the frame, the Gulls scored 5 goals and only allowed one, giving them a comfortable 13-8 cushion into the fourth quarter.
The lead proved to be plenty, as Endicott also won the fourth quarter 4-1. A 9-2 second half score propelled the Gulls to a convincing victory in their home opener.
Tommy Tyksinski led the way with a career-high 6 goals. Nick Graap scored a hat-trick of his own, and Joseph Tumolo and Adam Priest added two goals each. Gio Panicolo held it down in goal for the Gulls, recording 13 saves.
Endicott moves to 4-0 on the season and faces a huge test in their next game. No. 3 nationally ranked Bowdoin comes to Beverly on Tuesday, March 10 at 6 PM.
Springfield falls to 2-2 and faces a NESCAC opponent of their own in Colby College on Sunday, March 8.
