BEVERLY, Mass. - Endicott football rolled to a 45-17 victory over the visiting Curry Colonels to capture their 5th straight conference title.
The Gulls and the Colonels faced off on Saturday in a matchup to decide the conference championship. Both teams were a perfect 6-0 in conference play heading into the final regular season game.
It was fireworks early on. Curry returned the opening kickoff into Endicott territory. A short 4 play drive was capped off by a 28 yard touchdown run from Montie Quinn, the nation's leading rusher.
Endicott responded quickly with a 5 play, 53 yard drive capped off by an 11 yard rushing score from quarterback Shea Lynch.
Both teams stalled out until Endicott, who was pinned on their one yard line, drove 88 yards down the field and kicked a field goal, putting them ahead 10-7 in the second quarter.
Curry responded with a touchdown drive of their own. They kicked a field goal to end the half, putting them ahead 17-10 and leaving Endicott in unfamiliar territory.
A switch flipped in the second half, and Endicott’s offense fully came alive. The Gulls started with the ball, and drove 83 yards in just under two minutes. Lynch punched in another run and the Gulls tied the game up.
Endicott received a punt at their own ten yard line with around five minutes to play in the quarter. On the first play of the drive, Markys Bridgewater exploded for a 90 yard score to put the Gulls in front.
Endicott never looked back following this huge play. On the very next drive, on just the second play of the drive, freshman running back Bryan Ferreira tore off a 46 yard score to extend the lead.
On the Gulls’ first drive of the fourth quarter, Bridgewater took the first play of the drive for a score again, this time a 47 yard rushing score. Endicott now led 38-17.
The defense continued to force stop after stop all fourth quarter, squashing any chance of a Curry comeback. They forced a punt with just under 10 minutes to play, and Endicott milked nearly 8 minutes of clock before Bryan Metayer punched in a 1 yard rushing score. Endicott’s 35 unanswered second half points propelled them to a dominant 45-17 victory.
The rushing attack headlined this dominant victory, with the Gulls running for 411 yards as a team. Bridgwater led the way with an astounding 233 yards and 2 scores on just 9 attempts. Ferreira added 117 and a score of his own, while Metayer rushed for 40 and Lynch for 21. The Gulls rushed for 6 total rushing touchdowns.
Through the air, Lynch was efficient, going 10-18 for 192 yards. His favorite target on the day was tight end Jacob Ward, who caught 6 passes for a career high 135 receiving yards.
Despite forcing zero fumbles or interceptions, the Endicott defense had a dominant performance. Linebacker Danny Fleming led the way with a career high 11 tackles. Seven Gulls recorded over 5 tackles, and the team recorded 9 tackles for loss as a unit.
This game was also Senior Day, and the 27 seniors on the team were recognized prior to kickoff.
Endicott, now 9-1 on the season, will travel to Maryland on November 29 to face off against No. 10/12 nationally ranked Salisbury University in the second round of the NCAA Tournament. Both teams were top-15 in NPI rankings, resulting in a bye from the first round.
