BEVERLY, Mass. - Endicott football took care of business in front of a crowd of 5,500 fans on Homecoming weekend, taking down the University of New England 53-14.
Despite a slow first quarter start, the Gulls eventually struck first. After the defense forced a fumble in UNE territory, they capitalized on a short field, punching it in via a 1-yard rushing TD from Bryan Ferreira.
In the Nor’easters first drive of the second quarter, the Gulls forced another fumble via a Caleb Luz strip sack. This time, they left the offense with no work to be done, with Chris Lang scooping the ball and taking it to the house, putting Endicott in the lead 14-0.
From there, the Gulls never looked back. They forced a third takeaway, setting up another short field, where quarterback Shea Lynch found Jayson Little for the Gulls third touchdown of the first half.
They capitalized again in the first half, recording their longest scoring drive of the game, marching 52 yards in just three plays, with Markys Bridgewater punching it in on the ground. The Gulls led 27-0 heading into halftime.
Endicott continued playing high-end football in the second half. Bridgewater and Ferreira both scored their second touchdowns of the game, while Michael O’Brien scored on the ground as well.
Backup quarterback Ryan Boyce found Nick Stinson for a 57 yard touchdown in the fourth quarter to put the Gulls up 53-14, which ultimately ended as the final score.
Defense was the name of the game for Endicott, forcing 5 total turnovers and holding UNE to 4-19 on third downs and 1-5 on fourth downs. The Nor’easters recorded 315 total yards, their lowest mark of the season.
The offense was paced by the rushing attack, with a season high 348 yards on the ground. Bridgewater and Ferreira both passed the century mark, with 130 and 109 respectively. Six other Gulls recorded double digit yardage on the ground as well.
