BEVERLY, Mass. - Endicott football took down Maritime in convincing fashion 41-7 on Saturday at Hempstead stadium.
Endicott jumped to a strong start, with senior Bryan Metayer taking the opening kickoff 65 yards deep into enemy territory.
The Gulls took advantage of this strong field position, driving down towards the Maritime endzone. On the seventh play of the drive, quarterback Shea Lynch connected with Mike Greene on a wild tip-drill touchdown.
Endicott held this 7-0 lead into the second quarter, unable to break through the Maritime defense. This changed in a flurry, with the Gulls scoring on their final three drives of the half, extending their lead to 28-0 entering halftime.
It took until Maritime’s ninth drive of the game to put any points on the board, where they cut the lead to 28-7 off of a short field. This would be the last points Maritime would be able to manage.
Lynch found Matayer on a touchdown early in the fourth, and on the next drive, backup quarterback Ryan Boyce found the endzone on a 37 yard rush that saw him break multiple tackles. This closed the game out with a convincing 41-7 victory.
The offense was humming for the Gulls, recording 536 yards of total offense, their highest this season. Lynch went 22-28 for 243 yards and 4 touchdowns, the highest mark of his career. He added 56 yards on the ground as well.
Bryan Ferreira rushed for 82 yards, while Metayer added 47 and Sam Hubbard added 40. Jayson Little led the way receiving with 5 receptions for 86 yards and a touchdown. Metayer, Kennedy Charles, and Greene caught the other three touchdowns from Lynch.
Defensively, the Gulls stifled Maritime from start to finish. They got to the quarterback 4 times, had three tackles for loss, and had three pass breakups as a unit.
Endicott looks to carry this momentum into conference play, which starts next weekend. The Gulls travel up to Bangor, Maine to face off against the Husson Eagles at 1:00.
Maritime looks to bounce back against Salve Regina next Saturday.
