BEVERLY - Both Endicott basketball teams took down the visiting Nichols Bison on Tuesday night. The women won first 88-82, and the men followed with a 93-77 victory.
At 5:30, Endicott women’s basketball tipped off first to start the action at MacDonald Gymnasium. The first quarter was back and forth, with the Gulls holding the advantage 20-19 heading into the second quarter.
Endicott blew it open in the midst of a 20-8 run, and by halftime, they had a convincing 46-36 lead at halftime. They continued this hot stretch into the second half, getting the lead as high as 14 points.
The Bison did not back down, and they came storming back. The lead got to just one point with under seven minutes to play in the fourth quarter. Despite this late surge, the Gulls held on to a 6 point victory.
Libby Flemming led the way for the Gulls, putting together an all-around performance. She finished with 21 points, 10 rebounds, 3 assists, 3 steals, and 3 blocks.
Cora Nadeau, Sarah Dempsey, and Emma Shinney all scored 15 points of their own. Dempsey added a team-high 10 rebounds, and Shinney dished a team-high 6 assists.
In Endicott’s previous game at Suffolk University, Dempsey became the program’s all-time leading scorer. Tonight, she increased her record-setting point total to 1,581 in 103 games played.
The Gulls improved to an impressive 17-5 overall record, with a 13-2 record in CNE play. This victory marks their 8th straight, and they look to continue this streak Saturday, February 15 on the road against Hartford.
Following this win, the men’s basketball team tipped off at 7:30. The first half was back and forth, with five lead changes and neither team gaining an advantage. At halftime, Nichols had the edge 38-37 over the Gulls.
Endicott blew it open in the second half. They went on a 13-4 run with over 10 minutes to play, and from there, they never looked back. A 56 point half saw them cruise to a 16 point victory over their conference opponent.
The Gulls were led by standout transfer Marcus Montagnino, who put up a 32 point, 12 rebound, 6 assist performance. Montagnino leads the CNE in points per game (22.2) and has won Rookie of the Week seven straight weeks.
AJ Forte added 19 points off the bench, while Cam Keliher (12) and Elijah Kinney (11) scored in double-digits as well.
Endicott’s bench dominated, outscoring Nichols’ 27-3. The Gulls also outrebounded the Bison 41-29, including grabbing 13 offensive rebounds.
The Gulls improve to 16-6 overall and 13-2 in conference play. They look to extend their winning streak to 10 games on Saturday against Hartford on the road.
